“The White Lotus” creator Mike White has responded to Season 3 viewers complaining about the show’s pacing. Some fans have criticized the latest season for being too slow and boring across its eight episodes, the show’s longest run yet. The season finale was even supersized at 87 minutes long.

“The pacing and the vibe… it definitely gets under their skin,” White said about his critics on the official “White Lotus” podcast. “There was complaining about how there’s no plot. That part I find weird. It never did… part of me is just like bro, this is the vibe. I’m world building. If you don’t want to go to bed with me then get out of my bed. I’m edging you! Enjoy the edging. If you don’t want to be edged, then get out of my bed. Do you know what I mean? Don’t be a bossy bottom. Get the fuck out of my bed. Don’t come home with me. Don’t get naked in my bed. Get the fuck out of my bed. Obviously something is going to happen.”

Many television critics, including Variety’s Alison Herman, noted at the beginning of the season that “The White Lotus” was off to a slower start compared to previous seasons. However, whatever pacing issues some viewers had with Season 3 did not deter their interest in weekly viewing. The finale earned 6.2 million viewers, smashing the previous “White Lotus” viewership record by 30%.

With Season 3 now in the rearview mirror, “White Lotus” fans are wondering where White might take his series next. The creator had this to tease: “For the fourth season, I want to get a little bit out of the crashing waves of rocks vernacular but there’s always more room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels.”

Elsewhere in the podcast interview, White revealed one of the most “disappointing” parts of the finale that he had to cut out. It’s a scene where Piper loses her virginity to none other than Belinda’s song, Zion.

“She decides to lose her virginity in the script in the last episode,” White said of Piper. And she actually has sex with Zion,” White said. “There’s this whole scene where she’s like, ‘It’s true. Saxon is right about this one thing. I need to get this over with.’ And you know how after she leaves the monastery she’s just like, ‘I need to have sex.’ But in the end, it was one of these things where it was like, it’s already an hour and a half. It would have added 10 minutes to the thing. And it had a little bit of a rom-com vibe in the middle of trying to kill the family with the pong pong fruits. It just felt like I was trying to do too much narratively.”
