Gravitas Ventures has acquired U.S. and Canadian distribution rights for Dan Kay’s thriller “What We Hide,” scheduling it to release through digital and cable video-on-demand in August.
Kay wrote and directed the drama, which stars Mckenna Grace, Jojo Regina, Dacre Montgomery, Malia Baker, Jesse Williams, Forrest Goodluck and Fernanda Andrade. The film follows Spider (Grace) and Jessie (Regina), a pair of sisters whose mother dies from an overdose. The two conceal her body in an attempt to prevent being separated through the foster care system. Williams plays a sheriff, who looks into the matter, while Montgomery plays the mother’s drug dealer.
“Gravitas is thrilled to be releasing ‘What We Hide’ to audiences this summer. This emotional and devastating thriller casts a light on the harm substance abuse can have on an entire family and community. Audiences will be blown away by the impressive and heartfelt performances by McKenna Grace, Jojo Regina and Jesse Williams,” Kevin Scheid, Gravitas Ventures’s sales manager, said in a statement.
The film’s producers include Joseph Restaino and Tony Stopperan via Hungry Bull Productions and Jeff Hoffman and Yaniv Hoffman via Above the Clouds, as well as Kay and Dan Sima.
“The epidemic of drug addiction has been widely discussed, yet one of its most heartbreaking consequences remains largely overlooked: the countless ‘opioid orphans’—children who have lost both parents to this devastating disease. Bringing this hidden tragedy to light alongside our extraordinary cast has been a profound and humbling experience. I am deeply grateful to have found a home for our film with the passionate and committed team at Gravitas Ventures,” Kay said in a statement.
“What We Hide” world premiered at the Santa Barbara Film Festival.
