Sean Combs, the renowned rapper, entrepreneur, and producer also known as Diddy or Puffy, is currently facing a mounting wave of legal troubles, including a new lawsuit alleging shocking misconduct. The latest case, filed anonymously by a man referred to as John Doe, accuses Combs of drugging and sexually assaulting him during a party in Los Angeles in October 2022. According to the suit, Doe, an aspiring musician, was approached by one of Combs’ associates after a performance at a nightclub. The associate, claiming to be a scout for Combs, invited Doe to an exclusive A-list birthday party hosted by Combs. At the party, Combs allegedly offered Doe a drink, which Doe believes was drugged, and made promises to help him secure a recording contract. As the night progressed, Combs reportedly led Doe to a bedroom, where he made explicit demands and then violently assaulted him. The suit claims that Doe was left incapacitated and was later administered an IV before being driven back to the nightclub. He never heard from Combs again. Combs’ representatives have denied the allegations, calling them “facially ridiculous” and “demonstrably false,” and have expressed confidence in the judicial process to clear his name.

Combs is currently incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, where he has been held since his arrest on September 16, 2024, by Homeland Security on charges of racketeering and sex trafficking. He pleaded not guilty to the indictment and was denied bail by two judges, meaning he will remain behind bars until his trial on May 5, 2025. If convicted, particularly on the racketeering charge, Combs could face life in prison. The federal indictment paints a disturbing picture of Combs’ alleged involvement in “freak-offs,” wild sex parties that reportedly involved group sex, exhibitionism, drugs, and even filming of the events. These parties, according to the indictment, were often used as a means to exploit and abuse victims. Evidence for these charges was gathered during raids on Combs’ homes in Miami, New York, and Los Angeles, where electronics believed to contain relevant evidence were seized.

The wave of legal troubles against Combs began in earnest after his high-profile ex-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura, filed a lawsuit against him on November 16, 2023, accusing him of physical abuse, rape, and sex trafficking. Ventura’s lawsuit detailed her experiences with Combs, including her involvement in the “freak-offs,” where she claimed Combs treated the encounters as a form of personal entertainment, even adjusting candles for lighting to film the events. The lawsuit was settled privately the next day with undisclosed terms. However, on May 17, 2024, CNN released hotel surveillance footage showing Combs beating Ventura in Los Angeles in 2016, leading Combs to issue a public apology—the only acknowledgment of wrongdoing he has made since the allegations began.

Since Ventura’s lawsuit, a flood of additional lawsuits has been filed against Combs by both women and men, all alleging similar patterns of abuse, including drugging, sexual assault, and exploitation. These lawsuits span multiple decades, with some dating back to the early 1990s and others as recent as 2022. Among the accused are men and women who claim to have been victimized by Combs at various points in their lives. For example, Joi Dickerson-Neal accused Combs of drugging and sexually assaulting her in 1991, while Liza Gardner sued Combs and R&B singer Aaron Hall for assaulting her and a friend in 1990. Other plaintiffs include a Jane Doe who claims she was raped by Combs and two of his associates in New York City when she was a teenager, and producer Rodney Jones, who alleges that Combs sexually assaulted him while he was an employee from September 2022 to November 2023. Combs has categorically denied all these allegations, with his attorney Erica Wolff stating that he “emphatically and categorically denies as false and defamatory any claim that he sexually abused anyone, including minors.”

The lawsuits against Combs are not limited to direct allegations of assault; some also accuse him of covering up wrongdoing. For example, in April 2024, Combs was named as a co-defendant in a lawsuit alleging that his son, Christian “King” Combs, sexually assaulted a woman on a yacht. The suit claims that Combs paid to cover up the assault. Additionally, a suit filed in October 2024 by six plaintiffs, including two women and four men, alleges that Combs assaulted them at various points in the past, with one man claiming he was assaulted when he was just 16 years old in 1998. Another lawsuit filed in October 2024 accuses Combs of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in 2000. These allegations have continued to mount, with new lawsuits filed as recently as February 2025. Attorney Tony Buzbee, who represents many of the plaintiffs, has stated that he expects to file at least 120 more lawsuits on behalf of alleged victims, spanning assaults from the 2000s and 2010s.

Combs’ legal team has dismissed the lawsuits as a “publicity stunt” and expressed confidence in the judicial process to exonerate him. In a statement to Variety, his attorneys called the lawsuits “clear attempts to garner publicity” and reiterated that Combs has never sexually assaulted anyone. Despite these denials, the sheer number of lawsuits and the consistent nature of the allegations have raised serious questions about Combs’ conduct over the years. While Combs has faced legal challenges in the past, including a 2017 lawsuit by Cindy Rueda for sexual harassment and retaliation, which was settled in 2019, the current wave of allegations represents a significant escalation in both scope and severity. As the legal proceedings unfold, the world will watch to see how these serious charges are addressed and whether the truth, as Combs’ team claims, will indeed prevail in court.
