Dean Gaffney: Dean McCullough’s lack of stars could make campmates restless

Maura Higgins won’t take her time settling in, adds former campmate

Friday 22nd November 2024 – Former I’m a Celebrity campmate Dean Gaffney has told Heart Bingo that he believes cracks could start to show in what appears to be a happy camp, should Dean McCullough continue to win a low number of stars in trials.

Speaking to Heart Bingo, Gaffney said: “Every camp starts off happy and civil for the first few days, but we’re almost a week into the show now and when people start to get hungry, that’s when cracks can start to appear. There isn’t an obvious personality in there that will cause any issues, so it really just comes down to whether or not people are bringing back stars for a hungry camp.

“When GK Barry and Dean McCullough came back with no stars, you could see on Alan Halsall’s face that he wasn’t happy, although he was trying to hide it. I imagine that those two will be picked for almost all of the trials for as long as they’re in the show, and if they keep bringing back minimal stars then things could start to turn – a hungry camp is very rarely a happy camp.

“No matter how they perform in them, being involved in the majority of the trials will do their chances of going far in the show no harm. Viewers want to be entertained and when they’re screaming in the trials and bringing back no stars, that makes for better television.”

Maura won’t take time to settle in

Gaffney also spoke about new arrival Maura Higgins, who he thinks having joined the camp late may not have much time to bed in and make friends.

“You obviously want to spend your first few days in camp making friends and not causing any problems, but late arrivals like Maura Higgins won’t really have time to do that,” said Gaffney. “She’s coming in after less than a week since the start of the show, but people seem to forget how quickly campmates start getting voted off.

“She was a big personality on Love Island who caused a few stirs, but this is a totally different environment. However, she’ll need to get her personality across to the viewers quickly because the nature of the voting means you can’t just fade into the background. If people were voting to kick you off, then you’d be fine, but they’re voting to save you so you need to stand out and give them a reason to do that.”
