As a celebrity, you probably get sick of being recognized all the time. And for a legend like Kelly Ripa, it must happen a lot.
But this morning on Live with Kelly & Mark, the one time it might’ve been nice for the co-host to be recognized, it didn’t happen.
At the start of the show, Ripa shared that because she never had braces as a kid, she has been having corrective teeth work done in her adulthood. As a result, she sees an orthodontist aimed for children.
Ripa shared that when she shows up to her appointments, it’s mostly eleven-year-olds in the waiting room with her.
But that’s not the only odd thing about the office. Ripa shared that when she signs in at the office, a robot on wheels comes out and brings patients to their appointment, acting as a kind of secretary.
“This robot comes out, it’s very cool, wheels over and scans the child’s faces, and says ‘Hello, Ben! Dr. So-and-So will see you in Room 3. Follow me!’” The child will then follow the robot to their appointment room.
Sounds like something out of The Jetsons or maybe Black Mirror, depending on who you ask. But whenever the robot sees Ripa, it doesn’t have quite the same response to her as a grown woman.
“The robot is so confounded by me,” Ripa said. “It comes over to me and it scans me, and it says, ‘Please wait to be seen by an associate.’”
The audience burst into laughter at this, before co-host Mark Consuelos quipped: “I thought you were gonna say, it said, ‘Hey little fella, how are you?’”
But no, apparently it scans Ripa, doesn’t know what to make of her, and then just “slithers away.”
How could the robot not recognize the host of television’s most beloved talk show?
When Consuelos asked if the other kids enjoy the robot secretary, Ripa confirmed that they do. “I want to enjoy it, too!”
I personally would not like this. Whenever I see one of those robots in the grocery store aisle, I feel this primal urge to destroy the thing on sight.
