Indian thespian Anupam Kher‘s directorial venture “Tanvi The Great” will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival’s Marche du Film.

Kher will introduce the screening alongside cast and crew members, with numerous A-list celebrities expected in attendance.

The Cannes unveiling marks the beginning of an international rollout, as the production team has scheduled subsequent screenings across major global cities including London, New York, and Los Angeles, strategically expanding the film’s reach to worldwide audiences.

Details of the film are under wraps at the moment. It is produced by Anupam Kher Studio in association with India’s National Film Development Corporation.

The film is written by Ankur Suman (“Kaagaz”) and Abhishek Dixit (“Uunchai”) alongside Kher. Cinematography is by Keiko Nakahara (“Farrey”) and music by Oscar winner M.M. Keeravani (“RRR”).

Kher, one of Indian cinema’s most prolific character actors, made his directorial debut with the 2002 feature “Om Jai Jagadish,” a family drama headlined by Waheeda Rehman, Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan and Abhishek Bachchan. Though the film marked his first turn behind the camera, Kher has spent the bulk of his career in front of it, appearing in over 500 films across multiple languages. Internationally, Kher found steady footing in Hollywood with roles in features such as “Silver Linings Playbook,” “The Big Sick” and “Hotel Mumbai.” His performance as Dr. Kapoor in NBC’s medical drama “New Amsterdam” introduced him to a broader American television audience, while he scored a BAFTA nomination for the BBC’s “The Boy with the Topknot.”

“I’ve always wanted to create a film with a universal theme – one that transcends boundaries and connects with hearts everywhere,” Kher said. “‘Tanvi The Great’ is a story born from deep passion and purpose. It’s a film from our hearts, and I believe it will resonate just as deeply with audiences in Ahmedabad as it will in America.”

“Having Oscar-winner M.M. Keeravani bring this story to life with his musical genius has been a true blessing,” Kher added. “His artistry has elevated ‘Tanvi the Great’ in ways I had only dreamt of. I am truly humbled to present ‘Tanvi the Great,’ our labor of love, to the world.”
