The Fantastic Pavilion, Cannes’ genre cinema hub, is back for its third edition at this year’s upcoming Marché du Film with an ambitious lineup that reaffirms its role as the ultimate destination for horror, sci-fi and fantasy professionals. Since its debut in 2023, the Pavilion has rapidly evolved into a vital platform for genre creators and fans, and 2025 marks its most expansive year yet.
Leading the charge this year is the launch of Fantastic Focus, a new initiative spotlighting a different country or region each year. For its inaugural edition, the Pavilion is celebrating Mexico’s rich genre contributions with a multi-layered program. This includes a Mexican film in the Fantastic Galas lineup, four Mexican projects featured in the exclusive Round Robin event, two works-in-progress and two IPs available for remake. Additionally, a strong delegation of prominent Mexican filmmakers and producers, such as Gigi Saul Guerrero, Javier Colinas, Sofia Garza-Barba, and Alex Kahuam, will represent the country throughout the Pavilion’s activities.
Another major highlight is the expanded Fantastic Round Robin, a high-impact networking platform designed to connect selected genre projects with top-tier sales agents and distributors. This year, eight projects will be presented in a closed, targeted format to increase visibility, funding potential and global distribution opportunities—positioning the event as a future cornerstone of genre industry dealmaking.
Also returning is the IP Remake Showcase, a collaboration between Globalgate and the Morbido Group. Ten international titles will be pitched for remake rights, including the premiere of the teaser for The Turkish Coffee Table, the first project to emerge from the 2024 showcase under the new Morbidogate banner.
As ever, the Pavilion’s Fantastic Galas will present six standout films from around the globe, bringing fresh, innovative storytelling to international buyers and audiences. Meanwhile, three industry panels will tackle critical genre film topics, including Latin America’s booming market, the financial mechanisms behind genre success, and a special panel co-hosted with Yes She Cannes that explores women’s growing creative leadership in genre cinema.
Now a staple at Cannes, the Pavilion attracted over 2,600 visitors in 2024, with representatives from 39 festivals, 22 production companies, and 15 sales agents making it their headquarters for business and inspiration. The Pavilion’s continued growth shows no signs of slowing, especially with the return of crowd-favorites like the Fantastic Night party, videogame presentations, cocktail receptions, and the prestigious Fantastic Latido Award.
Reflecting on the Pavilion’s rapid rise, founder and Morbido Group CEO Pablo Guisa Koestinger explained, “What began as a dream in 2023 has now become a thriving hub—a vibrant space where the genre community converges to connect, create, and elevate independent cinema. Together, we produce, promote, release and forge stronger business opportunities. I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve built, and yet, for me, this is only the beginning.”
With its bold new initiatives and deepening global reach, the Fantastic Pavilion stands stronger than ever, ready to shape the future of genre cinema, one thrilling connection at a time.
