Indie rock husband-and-wife team Jillie Simon and Thomas Simon have commenced principal photography on their debut feature “Real, True, 100 Percent Love” in Bucharest, Romania, with The Mise En Scène Company (MSC) joining as production and sales consultant.
The romantic spy comedy, written by and starring actor-singer-songwriter Jillie Simon and co-directed by her and Thomas Simon, blends espionage with music in a story following activist and lead singer Elli DeCosta. After her boyfriend mysteriously vanishes, DeCosta’s personal heartbreak escalates into an international adventure involving Russian agents, the CIA, and a journey to rediscover her voice when he suddenly resurfaces months later.
The ensemble cast features Margarette Odette (“Sex/Life,” “Boogie”), Josh Cooke (“Dexter,” “Hail, Caesar!”), Nathan Sapsford (“The Golden Age”), Marc Duret (“La Femme Nikita,” “Outlander”), and Jackie Hoffman (“Glass Onion,” “Garden State”). Grammy-winner Larry Mitchell and European rock band Kumm will also appear in the music-driven project.
“This story reflects so much of my own life – touring as a musician, striving for change, and trying to find light amidst darkness,” said Jillie Simon. “I wanted to make a film that’s funny, fierce, and full of heart. We’re delighted to have MSC involved and contributing to our overall strategy.”
Mise En Scène Company CEO Paul Yates added: “We are thrilled to be working with this fabulously talented duo. Jillie and Thomas are a creative force – we’re proud to be advising on a project with such an incredibly bold indie spirit.”
The production is backed by One Hundred Percent Love LLC in collaboration with Romania’s Libra Film, with an international crew split between Bucharest and New York. The film is set between the atmospheric streets of Bucharest and Brooklyn’s music scene.
The Simons previously earned festival acclaim for their short films “Hungry” and “A Chance.” Production is scheduled to continue through April, with post-production completing in time for a festival run beginning in 2026.
