Some collaborations are obvious — others, not so much. It’s fair to say that the first reaction from the lucky people who received invitations to last week’s event in New York featuring indie icon Bon Iver (aka Justin Vernon) and menswear maven Todd Snyder was “Huh?”
But as such things go sometmes, the pair were mutual fans, met, became friends, Vernon shared some music from his excellent new album “SABLE, fABLE” (out Friday) and Snyder “was inspired to create something truly special that reflected both Vernon’s artistry and Snyder’s design ethos,” according to the announcement. The pair discussed it at the event, held at the company’s flagship location in New York’s NoMad neighborhood on April 1.
“This project came together in such a natural way,” says Snyder, founder and president of the company that bears his name. “Justin’s music has been a huge source of inspiration for me over the years, and getting to create something that celebrates his latest album felt like an incredible opportunity. We wanted these pieces to feel as personal and unique as the music itself.”
Vernon added, “Todd’s from Iowa. I’m from western Wisconsin, and there’s a certain ethic that we share. I didn’t expect to have this big career like a kid growing up in L.A. might. It was just like, ‘What are we doing Friday night?’ You learn to create something out of nothing.”
The pair also spoke at some length about the power of and their mutual affection for the salmon shade of pink — not flamingo, not coral, not watermelon, but salmon — which dominates both the clothing and the album artwork.
The items from the limited-edition collaboration celebrating the release of “SABLE, fABLE” are below. Both styles feature the soft salmon hue and black square intarsia drawn directly from the album cover, with a finishing touch of Bon Iver’s signature embroidered at the hem of the sweater. The Todd Snyder x Bon Iver limited-edition hoodie and beanie will be available April 10th, 2025, at 10 am ET exclusively at ToddSnyder.com (head here for more info).
The Todd Snyder x Bon Iver Sweater Hoodie – $398 – crafted from Snyder’s signature Nomad yarn — a recycled Italian cashmere that offers a plush, lofty feel and the perfect weight for year-round wear. Designed with subtle, athletic-inspired details, the hoodie features exposed linking at the raglan shoulders, a cozy kangaroo pocket, and an adjustable hood.
The Todd Snyder x Bon Iver Luxe Ribbed Beanie – $138 – also crafted from Nomad yarn in a half-cardigan stitch and four-point finish for a refined texture.
