Ransom Canyon Ending Explained: Ransom Canyon Season 1 Finale Recap
Ransom Canyon‘s Season 1 finale picks up three days after Cap’s death with Ellie lying in bed mourning his loss, Quinn and Staten waking up together, Lucas looking at his signed emancipation papers, and Lauren getting the results of her x-ray. As for Yancy, he copes with the grief by tearfully restoring the ranch’s garden in Cap’s honor.
When Quinn and Staten stop by to check on Ellie, Yancy confirms she’s taking the loss hard and he’s pushing his emotions down to focus on her. He finally tells her it’s time to plan the memorial and honor Cap’s last wish: to be buried on his land. When Ellie asks about Cap’s wish to sell to Austin Water & Power (AWP), Yancy says they’ll honor that, too, and all the money will go to her and Ruth. He even promises to stick around after the ranch is sold so they can see where their romance is headed.
Speaking of AWP, they threaten legal action against Quinn if she doesn’t return their early $80,000 investment in Gracie’s Dance Hall. She has no idea how to pay them back, but when Staten — certain they’re going after her to get to him — offers to help, she assures him she doesn’t need rescuing. And she’s not the only one in town who’s spiraling…
Lucas, heartbroken over Lauren ghosting him, takes desperate measures and talks to her dad. Still wrestling with the knowledge that Lauren’s mom is to blame for Randall’s death as she was driving the truck that hit him, Dan assures Lucas that Lauren just needs time and inquires about Kit and the emancipation papers. After Lucas leaves, Dan urges Lauren to see him so he knows he’s not alone, but Lauren is in a dark place as she fears for her future and her mom’s crime.
Ahead of Cap’s memorial service, Quinn meets up with Davis and finally calls their relationship quits. He takes the news surprisingly well, thanks her for being there for his sister, and says he’s always wanted her to be happy. He even encourages her to follow her dreams to New York, which really makes her tear up.
RIP Cap Fuller… And Yancy Grey?
Yancy puts on his dad’s suit to say goodbye to his grandfather with Ellie. Despite agreeing to sell earlier, she has a change of heart and encourages Yancy to keep the ranch in the family. As Yancy’s wrestling with his thoughts, he tells Staten, “I came here for revenge, I think I might have been looking for something else. Acceptance. Love. But Cap, he didn’t have any of that. Not for me… All I know is he would want me far away as possible.” In Cap’s absence, Staten tells Yancy the truth — that Cap spent years looking for him and his mother, hated himself for what he did, and wanted to tell him but never got the chance. Then he suggests, “Hey, it’s a wake! Maybe it’s time Yancy Grey dies, too. You’re a Fuller. You always have been.”
Meanwhile, Quinn questions Staten’s dad about the AWP threat and assures him she’d rather let Grace’s die than support the pipeline for him. Lucas finally catches up with Lauren and reveals his plans to stay in Ransom Canyon with her for college — especially since Kit signed the papers and he has no one. After their emotional chat, Lauren confronts her dad and reveals she know about him, her mom, and Kit. “You’re guilty, too, for letting her go. You cant let Kit sit in that cell. You have to do what’s right,” she urges.
When the memorial ends, Quinn and Staten have a serious chat about their future and she finally revealed she was invited to New York for six months to play with the Philharmonic. Naturally, Staten doesn’t take the news well. And they aren’t the only couple in Ransom having major relationship chats. Yancy takes Ellie to a little chapel, reveals his plans to run the ranch until he dies, and — wait for it — asks her to MARRY HIM! That very same night! He tells her Ruth gave him the ring and they’re in her and Cap’s spot. But before he can finish his adorable spiel, Ellie calls his proposal “insane” and says she wants to know the man she marries. Yancy assures her she knows everything she needs to — the good and bad. Ellie heads to her shift at Gracie’s, but he promises to wait for her and pay a priest by the hour in hopes she returns.
Despite Quinn’s pleas for Staten to stay out of the AWP situation, he heads to confront his dad, who warns Staten he plans to contest him as the sole trustee of the Double K Ranch and argue that he isn’t in his right mind following Randall’s death. Since Cap agreed to sell before his death, Sam assumes Staten is the only one standing in the way of the deal. But as Davis learns during his meet-up with Yancy, the cowboy is willing to throw away the $22 million ranch sale to it and stay in Ransom with Ellie. Awwww!
Rather than let Gracie’s close down, Quinn decides to take the New York gig and make the money to pay back AWP. After she promots Ellie to her official business partner, the two get a line dancing party started and Ransom Canyon’s romance develop — for better and worse. Feeling guilty over her mom and Kit, Lauren breaks up with Lucas. After Davis intentionally provokes Staten at the bar, Staten punches him in the face and confirms his relationship with Quinn, which infuriates her. “All I ever wanted was you, and I think that all you want is your own pain,” she says.
While Lucas wins Lauren back after a grand romantic gesture, instead of taking the opportunity to ask Quinn to dance like he meant to all those years ago, Staten leaves the bar and leaves his bracelet behind to signify they’re done. To make matters worse, turns out Davis teamed up with Staten’s dad and baited Staten into punching him as proof he’s unfit to be sole trustee of the ranch.
Do Yancy And Ellie Get Married?
And now, for the moment Yancy Grey stans have been waiting for: Do he and Ellie get married?! Yancy lights the chapel with candles, brings his book of poetry, and asks the photo strip of his parents to “Wish me luck.” So does it work? Back at Grace’s, Ellie comes to her decision and tells her ex Kai (Justin Johnson Cortez), still suspicious of Yancy, she plans to marry him. With wedding dress in hand, Ellie is about to meet her future groom until a mystery woman stops her and says, “Excuse me, do you happen to know Yancy Grey? I’m looking for him. I’m his wife.” WHAT?! Needless to say, Ellie stands Yancy up at the altar, and they don’t resolve anything before the season ends.
Instead, the final moments of Ransom Canyon‘s Season 1 finale see Dan taking Lizzie’s advice, arresting her mom, and letting Kit go free for her crime. Lucas is overjoyed to have his brother back, but with acceptance letters from Princeton, Columbia, and more, he still has a college decision hanging over his head. Before the end credits roll, Quinn plays the piano at home and Staten rides his horse and looks out at the canyon. The two have yet to repair the rift between them, so a Season 2 renewal is crucial.
