Melissa Aouate is the new president of Blumhouse Television.
Aouate, formerly president and partner at Fabel Entertainment, will oversee the creative team for Blumhouse’s scripted TV division, which is responsible for series such as Kevin Bacon’s “The Bondsman” on Amazon Prime Video, Amy Adams’ “Sharp Objects” on HBO and the upcoming Amazon series “Scarpetta,” starring Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Blumhouse’s unscripted TV slate will continue to be overseen by Gretchen Palek, head of alternative television. Rob Hackett remains the head of television for Atomic Monster, which operates as its own label within Blumhouse.
Prior to Fabel, which is best known for creating the “Bosch” universe, Aouate was a literary agent at ICM Partners and also served as an executive for Robert Zemeckis’ ImageMovers, where she contributed to projects such as “Flight,” “The Walk,” “Real Steel,” “Beowulf” and “The Borgias.”
“We’re incredibly fortunate to have found Melissa to lead Blumhouse’s scripted television division,” said Abhijay Prakash, president of Blumhouse. “Melissa brings exceptional taste and an impressive track record of success with both edgy and mainstream fare, and as we continue to grow and sustain our slate of ongoing scripted series. I’m thrilled to welcome her to Blumhouse.”
Aouate added, “Blumhouse has built one of the most innovative brands in film with bold, visceral storytelling that resonates with all kinds of audiences. It’s a big tent that prioritizes creative risk-taking and always puts the viewer first. I couldn’t be more excited to lead the effort to expand on that sensibility for television.”
