Reese Witherspoon has shared a first look at Lexi Minetree as Elle Woods in “Elle,” Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming “Legally Blonde” prequel series.

The series recently began filming, Witherspoon announced on Instagram. “Harvard was hard. High School was harder. Our new series, Elle, is now in production!” she wrote.

Per the official logline, the series “follows Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first ‘Legally Blonde’ film.”

Minetree was announced as starring in February, marking her first lead role after smaller appearances in “Law & Order: SVU,” “The Murdaugh Murders,” “Crowdsource Murder” and “The Paramedic Who Stalked Me.”

The cast also includes Tom Everett Scott as Elle’s father and June Diane Raphael as her mother.

Laura Kittrell created “Elle” and serves as co-showrunner with Caroline Dries. Both are executive producers alongside Marc Platt as well as Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter and Lauren Kisilevsky via Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine banner. Amazon MGM is the studio, having greenlit the series in May 2024.

Released in 2001, “Legally Blonde” was directed by Robert Luketic and written by Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith based on the book of the same name by Amanda Brown. The film was a major boost for Witherspoon’s career, coming soon after her breakout roles in “Cruel Intentions” and “Election.” She reprised the role of Elle in the 2003 sequel “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde.” The original film was also adapted into a musical that opened on Broadway in 2007.
