The Hulu series about the notorious Murdaugh family has added three new cast members.
Variety has learned that Noah Emmerich (“The Americans,” “Dark Winds”), Kathleen Wilhoite (“Gilmore Girls,” “Pepper Ann”), and Tommy Dewey (“Saturday Night,” “Casual”) are all set for roles in the untitled series.
Previously announced cast members include Jason Clarke, Patricia Arquette, J. Smith-Cameron, Johnny Berchtold, Will Harrison, and Brittany Snow. The series is based on the true story of Maggie and Alex Murdaugh as well as the reporting of Mandy Matney, journalist and creator of the “Murdaugh Murders” podcast. Clarke will play Alex, while Arquette will play Maggie. Snow is set to appear as Matney.
The Murdaugh family were powerful players in the Lowcountry region of South Caroline, wielding great legal and political influence. But for the better part of a decade, the family has been accused of involvement in a variety of crimes, ranging from fraud to murder. In addition to the “Murdaugh Murders” podcast, they have been the subject of multiple docuseries and news specials.Emmerich will play Randy Murdaugh. The character is described as “Strait-laced and by the book, he is the antithesis to his wild card younger brother Alex in life and in the legal profession. Their wildly different approaches have led to a lifetime of locking horns as they jockey for their father Randolph’s affection and approval.”
Wilhoite will play Gloria Satterfield, who is said to be “The Murdaughs’ loyal and doting housekeeper for decades. Gloria helped raise Buster and Paul from infancy. Deeply religious with two grown sons of her own, Gloria tirelessly and gracefully puts the Murdaughs and their troubles above all else, even her own well-being.
And Dewey will join the cast as Mark Tinsley. “Dashing, confident, smart, and connected, Mark Tinsley is a prosecutor who’s an old hunting buddy of Alex’s and is now representing the parents of the girl who lost her life in the boat accident.”
Emmerich is repped by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment Partners. Wilhoite is repped by AKA Talent Agency. Dewey is repped by The Kohner Agency, Anonymous Content, and Myman Greenspan.
Michael D. Fuller and Erin Lee Carr are co-creators and executive producers on the series, with Fuller also set to serve as showrunner. Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund will executive produce under their Eat the Cat banner, with Matney also executive producing. UCP is the studio. Antosca and Eat the Cat are currently under an overall deal at UCP.
