SND has acquired international distribution rights to “My Wife is a Spy,” a high concept action comedy starring Marie Gillain (“Under the Influence”) which world premiered at Canneseries.
Directed by Leo Karmann, whose credits include “Simon’s Got a Gift,” the series is produced by Barbara Maubert for Kabo, a company owned by Asacha Media Group. The show will be broadcast on primetime on M6, France’s second biggest commercial network.
“My Wife is a Spy” stars Gillain as Isabelle, a married suburban mother of two who emerges from a fall with extraordinary ability that have been dormant for 20 years and suddenly starts to remember her past as a top secret agent. Realizing a part of her youth has been erased from her memory, she decides to return to duty to understand what happened while juggling her kids. The cast is completed by Arnaud Ducret (“Liar,” “A Perfect Man”), Nicolas Gob (“The Art of Crime”), Claire Chust (“Miss”) and Marc Riso ( “A Little Something Extra”).
The show is produced by Barbara Maubert whose credits include the Netflix’s series “Killer Coaster” and “Derby Girl.” Maubert said “My Wife is a Spy” is a “liberating series that shines a light on an ordinary heroine who faces the extraordinary.”
“This series is an ode to mothers and to their hidden potential,” Maubert said, adding that it’s “first and foremost an adventure comedy” with “colorful characters.”
Ramy Nahas, SND’s head of international sales, described “My Wife is a Spy” as a “fun popcorn comedy that delivers colorful action and fights,” in the spirit of Tex Avery or Jachie Chan.
“Léo Karmann has a unique sense of cinematography and storytelling,” Nahas said, adding that the adventures of the “both grounded in reality and and over-the-top when she enters the world of spies.”
Speaking of Maubert, Nahas said “has an eye for captivating story about strong female characters overcoming obstacles in weird and unusual set ups.”
SND’s current sales slate also includes “The Girls We Want” which will world premiere at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight.
