Hacks Season 4 on MAX is focused on what happens when comedian Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) finally gets the late night show she’s always dreamed of hosting. Worried that Marcus’s story on Hacks is over? When DECIDER chatted with Hacks star and EP Paul W. Downs last month, he set our nerves at ease by revealing some slight spoilers.
“This is maybe spoiler-y, but it’s fine,” Downs said. “Marcus is in the latter half of the season and we have big plans for the character.”
So, no, Marcus is not leaving Hacks. Carl Clemons-Hopkins will be back! But he definitely does seem to disappear for the next run of episodes and Downs explained it’s for storytelling reasons.
“I think the truth is that we’re really following the ecosystem of Deborah Vance and so where she goes, the story goes,” Downs said, referring to the focus of Hacks Season 4 shifting to the fledgling late night show.
“I think what Marcus says about feeling like she needs to put her whole ass into the show and it doesn’t leave as much time for him and he deserves not to just be waiting in the sidelines is real,” he said. “And I think that what we have in store [for Marcus] will be really exciting for people.”
Downs then stopped himself, teasing that he couldn’t say more without spoiling. “But don’t worry. The ensemble, just like every single season, the ensemble still exists and we will still see them and hopefully they get their moment in the sun,” he said.
Marcus will return to Hacks. So there.
