The concept of Stack was born out of a personal necessity. Hick and Vanderberghe found themselves on the hunt for a filing cabinet that was both timeless and adaptable for their own office. They wanted something that could evolve as their space and needs changed, but their search came up empty. Instead of settling for something less than perfect, they decided to create their own solution. They began by defining a set of core principles: simplicity, effectiveness, stability, stackability, and expandability. These keywords became the foundation for Stack, a furniture system that is as versatile as it is durable. The result is a collection that feels less like static objects and more like tools for self-expression, empowering users to create something entirely new every time.
At its heart, Stack is a modular system composed of 14 recyclable aluminum components: three vertical connectors, three circular plates, three square plates, and five rectangular shelves. These pieces can be combined in countless ways, allowing users to construct anything from cabinets and multi-level shelves to totems and round coffee tables. The beauty of Stack lies in its flexibility—users can experiment with different configurations, mixing and matching components to suit their needs, preferences, and even their moods. The duo has made a name for itself in Belgium and beyond, contributing to high-profile projects like the Wunderkammer Residence for the Dhondt Dhaenens Museum, mirrored chip shops in Brussels, and the redevelopment of the botanical garden in Meise. They are currently working on the master plan and scenography for the Middelheim Open-Air Museum in Antwerp, further cementing their reputation as visionary designers.
