Cruise passengers have been left confused after discovering a controversial drinks package rule on Carnival Cruise Line. Guests sailing on Carnival have the option of buying a Cheers! Drink package to add on to their cruise. The package means that passengers pay a flat daily fee for all-inclusive alcohol, rather than paying for their drinks as they go. But the Cheers! package is subject to a few strange rules, depending on where you start your cruise. Guests who set sail with Carnival from the U.S. ports of New York, Norfolk (Virginia) and Texas won’t be able to use their Cheers! package for the first 24 hours of their cruise. Writing on Facebook, Lloyd Dikes says: ‘First time cruising with Carnival and have a few questions about drink packages. Sailing out of Texas, so no alcohol until day two…am I still paying for day one when purchasing?’ Jacob Shipley replies: ‘You can get alcohol on day one, you just pay for it, no you do not get charged for day one.’ Pat Lumpkin adds: ‘The drink package is charged by the day that you can actually use it. So no. You don’t pay double.’ Cruise passengers have been left confused after discovering a controversial drinks package rule on Carnival Cruise Line Guests sailing on Carnival have the option of buying a Cheers! He says: ‘I get this asked all the time. According to the Virginia state rules, we are not allowed to use the Cheers program on the first day. ‘It is against their legislation, they have asked not to do the drinks program on the first day. So there you go, you can only use that on the second day.’ To sum up, passengers on the Cheers! package will have to pay for their drinks separately on the first day and their package will start from day two. It’ll kick in at 6am as explained by Carnival Cruise Line which says: ‘Cheers package begins on day two for ships sailing from Texas, Norfolk and New York – activation will occur at 6am on the second day of the cruise.’ A Carnival Cheers package costs from $82.54/£63.69 and includes all spirits and beer and wine by the glass. But there are a few other rules, apart from the 24 hour regulations, that guests will need to be aware of. Passengers need to be aged 21 and over to use the package, regardless of the drinking age in the area they’re sailing in. Every adult staying in a stateroom will need to be under the package to prevent guests sharing drinks with non-paying companions. Carnival says it ‘reserves the right to refuse service for any reason’ to passengers on the drinks package. Several drinks aren’t included in the package, such as bottles of liquor, sharing cocktails and room service beverages.
