easyJet has announced it’s opening a new base at London Southend Airport. The budget carrier will be offering 122 flights per week across 22 routes from the Essex-based airport. The routes will take British tourists to destinations across Europe and North Africa, with 330,000 seats available. easyJet will fly passengers to several new destinations from Southend, including Reus and Gran Canaria in Spain. The carrier will also operate flights to Tenerife, Marrakech, Antalya, Almeria, Pisa, Dalaman, Endfidha and Malta. Gary Wilson, easyJet holidays CEO, said: ‘With flights and thousands of package holidays now available to 20 destinations from London Southend, this will not only enable us to serve many more customers, providing value and more choice, but also supports critical connectivity and jobs for the UK, as we get set for our biggest ever summer.’ easyJet is set to keep three A320neo aircraft at London Southend, supporting around 1,200 jobs with 140 of those for cabin crew and pilots.
