British tourists on a popular Croatian island have been warned they’ll need to stick to strict clothing rules or face a fine. Hvar, a beautiful island in Croatia’s Adriatic Sea, is known for its nightclubs and beaches. But tourists could face hefty fines if they’re caught wearing swimwear away from designated areas.  Wearing speedos or a bikini away from the pool or beach in Hvar could see tourists fined €600/£513. Tourists could also face a €500/£428 on-the-spot fine if they’re walking around shirtless in the island’s town centre. Visitors are also required to cover up while visiting religious sites, museums and cultural landmarks.  Travel expert and commercial director at Good Travel Management, Laura Busby, has now shared some advice for travellers. She says: ‘To avoid fines or negative experiences while visiting Croatia, research any landmarks or local attractions and their dress codes before you visit, so you are not caught off guard.  British tourists on a popular Croatian island have been warned they’ll need to stick to strict clothing rules Wearing speedos or a bikini away from the pool or beach in Hvar could see tourists fined €600/£513’There’s nothing worse than being refused entry for incorrect attire when you’ve already travelled to your destination.’ Laura recommends carrying a ‘scarf, shawl or long-sleeved jacket’ that can be worn if you decide to visit a church or museum. ‘Learn about the local customs, traditions and cultural norms of the country you’re visiting,’ says Laura. ‘Understanding the basics will help you navigate your trip more smoothly, without risking any potential hiccups. ‘Keep an eye on how locals behave in different situations and environments, like cafes, restaurants and tourist sites. ‘Mirror their actions where possible, to show your respect for their values.’ The travel expert also recommends learning a few phrases of the local language before visiting as ‘people will appreciate the effort’.
