- Hot and cold water therapies are currently the most popular wellbeing trend in the UK
With an average of 31,000 Google searches for “wellbeing trends” every single month1, people in the UK are looking to prioritise their mental and physical health, but how are they going about it?
A nationwide study2 from Platinum Spas has found that currently, three quarters (75%) of people in the UK are keen to try a wellbeing trend this year, but aren’t sure which to choose and for those that have tried them, a huge 58% say it affected them negatively. The new in-depth research takes a deep-dive into where people look for wellbeing inspiration, the life-changes that have been made to prioritise self-care and the most popular current wellbeing activities, as well as where people are going wrong when trying them.
Currently, 16% of Brits admit that they’ve tried a wellbeing trend, but it has had a negative effect on their mental health because they didn’t feel like it was the right one for them. More than a quarter (26%), also confessed that they were only able to keep up a wellbeing activity for 4 weeks, so where are they going wrong?
Firstly, finding the right source for anything health related is crucial to making the initial step. People turning to friends and family members is the most popular way Brits find wellbeing trends (33%), however it’s important to note that different activities suit different individuals:

Health and wellness magazines (30%) and speaking to a GP (30%) is solid starting point as they will have the correct medical guidance to find a suitable activity for a person’s lifestyle. Social media is also a widely popular choice, but it’s important to ensure the instructor has the correct qualifications and experience before utilising their content.
Which current trends are people trying?
Throughout the sources above, Brits have found the following wellbeing trends have been most effective, with hot and cold water therapies leading the way (11%). Hormone Health Awareness (8%), taking Magnesium supplements (7%), and Sober curiosity (7%) follow, as people in the UK are trying a range of techniques that suit their current health conditions, wellness goals and lifestyle:

If you’re looking to introduce a wellbeing trend or routine into your lifestyle in 2025, the experts at Platinum Spas have share their top tips, from prioritising sleep to getting an accountability buddy:
- Personalise your wellness routine
Your wellness routine should reflect you, your needs, your goals, and your lifestyle. No two minds or bodies are the same, so avoid adopting a generic routine from the internet simply because it’s trending.
Start by assessing what has worked for you in the past. If you’ve experienced burnout, for instance, steer clear of energy-intensive trends or overly ambitious schedules. Instead, prioritise gentle practices like mindful breathing or short yoga sessions that recharge rather than drain you. Be honest about what you can realistically commit to and allow your routine to evolve as your needs change.
- Prioritise Quality Sleep
Sleep is the foundation of wellness and without consistent, good-quality rest, your energy, focus, and motivation will waver, making it difficult to sustain any new habits. Begin by setting a regular bedtime and wake-up time, even on weekends, to regulate your body clock.
Create a calming bedtime routine, dim the lights, avoid screens at least an hour before bed, and consider winding down with a book or herbal tea. If you struggle to fall asleep, try mindfulness techniques and remember, investing in your sleep is investing in your overall health.
- Stay Hydrated
Water is one of the simplest yet most powerful wellness tools. Aim to drink consistently throughout the day to support your energy levels and mental clarity. Start your morning with a glass of water, keep a reusable bottle nearby, and set reminders if you’re prone to forgetting.
If you often feel sluggish or peckish, reach for water first, it’s common to mistake thirst for hunger or fatigue. Opt for water instead of sugary drinks or excess caffeine, as it provides the hydration your body and brain truly need.
- Find an Accountability Buddy
Wellness journeys can feel overwhelming when tackled alone. Partnering with a friend, family member, or colleague as an accountability buddy can make a world of difference. Choose someone who shares similar goals or values, and agree on how you’ll support each other.
This might involve scheduling regular walks together, checking in with a quick text each evening, or even joining a fitness class as a pair. The encouragement and shared commitment will help you stay motivated and create a sense of accountability.
- Be Kind to Yourself
Wellness is a journey, not a destination. Progress takes time, and setbacks are part of the process. If you miss a day, indulge in an unplanned treat, or break your routine, resist the urge to beat yourself up. Instead, acknowledge the stumble, reflect on what led to it, and start fresh the next day.
Self-compassion is key so treat yourself as you would a friend. Celebrate small wins, whether it’s drinking an extra glass of water or taking a five-minute stretch break. Remember, consistency is more important than perfection, and each step forward is progress.
