MORGANTOWN — Chase Swain tripled and drove in three runs, as the 23rd-ranked WVU baseball team defeated Houston 9-2 on Friday night to move into a three-way tie for first in the Big 12.
The Mountaineers (28-4, 8-3 Big 12) pounded out 15 hits overall inside Schroeder Park in their first-ever meeting against the Cougars (19-15, 5-8), with Skylar King and Logan Sauve collecting three each.

Swain picked up an RBI single in the second inning to give WVU a 1-0 lead. He tripled in the fourth inning to score Grant Hussey and then drove in Brodie Kresser in the fifth on a sacrifice fly for a 6-1 lead.
With two games remaining in the series, WVU moved into a tie for the conference lead along with Kansas and TCU. The Horned Frogs roughed up the Jayhawks, 14-1, on Friday in the first game of that three-game series.
