WARDEN — The Warden Cougars lost in a hard-fought game against Connell 3-0 Tuesday night.“It was a good game in the first half; starting the second hal it looks like we started to lose the ball,” said Cougars Coach Rafael Elizarraraz. The Cougars only had an 11-man squad Tuesday, which meant players had no substitutes and had to play the entire the game without breaks, said the coach.
“We did our best; it was just that we pushed our players to the limit,” he said. The Cougars had to play without their midfielders in this game, which required the other players to change positions. That was challenging but necessary, said Elizarraraz.Despite the exhaustion and switching of positions, Elizarraraz said the team still did very well.As Warden looks to its next game, which will be against Wahluke, the team hopes to get some players back onto the roster.“Basically, it will be the same for all games, just try hard and we’ll see,” said Elizarraraz. “Wahluke is a tough team so hopefully we do better with them.”The Cougars will be on the road against Wahluke on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Cougars’ Omar Araujo Arredondo, a senior, looks to pass the ball to a teammate as Connell’s defense closes in. Despite the demanding circumstances, coach Rafael Elizarraraz said his team played a great game. The Cougars look to strengthen their current squad and hope to see the return of key players.
