Harmony Korine‘s multimedia design collective EDGLRD has inked a first-look development deal with AI giant Runway. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The two companies plan to develop new projects, using Runway’s generative AI tools. EDGLRD previously worked with Runway on campaigns for Marc Jacobs and Balenciaga.

“At EDGLRD, we’re always experimenting with new technology and tools as we look for new ways to create images and tell stories,” Korine said in a statement on Runway’s blog. “This partnership is about exploring what’s possible.” Korine used Runway’s AI tools for his experimental project “Baby Invasion,” which he debuted last year at the Venice Film Festival.

In a statement, head of Runway Studios Jamie Umpherson said: “Partnering with Harmony is a perfect fit – as someone who has made a career out of pushing the boundaries of traditional production and story structures, his expertise is directly in line with how we’re building towards this new era of media.”

Recently, Runway raised an addition $308 million in a new round of funding, bringing its funding to $545 million to date, and debuted its Gen-4 AI models.

Earlier this week, Runway confirmed that Korine has joined the jury for its third AI Film Festival; honored content is scheduled to be screened at a June 5 event in New York. A June 12 event in Los Angeles will follow.

Over the years, Korine has developed a strong voice as an experimental filmmaker with films like “Kids” starring Chloë Sevigny, “Spring Breakers” starring Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens and James Franco and “The Beach Bum” starring Matthew McConaughey.
