Travelling with Kids? Here’s How to Keep It Hassle-Free

Travelling with kids is never easy, the process can be overwhelming, often leaving you stressed and exhausted before the trip even begins.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport is excited to share some of their expert tips and tricks to help parents manage the airport, allowing for a smoother flying experience.

  1. Be the Last to Board the Plane

While some airlines offer early boarding for families with young children, waiting to board the plane last may be the better option. Being the last on the plane allows for the little ones to burn off all their energy at the gate and leaves less time for them to be confined to their seats. However we only recommend boarding last if you are travelling with hand luggage that can go under the seat in front of you.

  1. Opt for Simple Clothing Choices

Dress your kids in easy-to-remove clothing and shoes, such as slippers. Steer clear of clothing that has many zips or buttons. It’s also best to avoid white clothing as kids are prone to accidents. But most importantly, make sure they are comfy!

  1. Plan for Ear Pressure

Make sure to pack lollipops, chewy sweets, or for infants a bottle. Swallowing helps reduce ear pressure and alleviate discomfort when changing altitudes.

  1. Pack a Snack Box

Packing a snack box has gone viral on TikTok and is now considered essential for a plane journey. Make sure it is full of your child’s favourite sweets and savoury treats. This will save you money and keep your kids happy, hopefully killing some flight time.

  1. Pre-Book Parking

Plan your parking ahead of time, and try to choose a car park close to the terminal. Check with your local airport as some, like Liverpool Airport, offer fast-track options through security when you pre-book online.

  1. Hold off on Screen Time

While it might seem like an easy solution, it’s better to wait until you are on the plane before letting your child use a tablet. Let them run off all their energy in the airport before takeoff, so they can wind down during the flight.

  1. Pack New Toys

Prepare a small bag of new toys with colouring books or activities to keep them entertained for hours. Try to introduce these toys when on the plane; the excitement of getting something new will start the journey off right!
