“Doctor Who” star Ncuti Gatwa and “Killing Eve” actor Edward Bluemel will bring to life a face-off between two of history’s greatest playwrights in “Born With Teeth,” set for a limited London West End run this summer.

The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), Playful Productions and Elizabeth Williams are joining forces to present Liz Duffy Adams’ play at Wyndham’s Theatre for an 11-week season starting Aug. 13 and running through Nov. 1.

RSC co-artistic director Daniel Evans will helm the production, which imagines the creative rivalry and relationship between William Shakespeare (Bluemel) and Christopher Marlowe (Gatwa) in 1591 England. The production marks Evans’ directorial debut for the RSC following critically acclaimed productions including “Quiz,” “American Buffalo,” “South Pacific” and “Our Generation.”

Set against a backdrop of paranoia and conspiracy, the play envisions clandestine meetings between the two literary legends who “duel and flirt like their lives depend on it — and with spies everywhere, betrayal is so tempting.”

The play marks Adams’ U.K. debut. Her work includes the neo-Restoration comedy “Or,” which has been produced more than 80 times since its Off-Broadway premiere. An earlier version of “Born With Teeth” received an Edgerton Foundation New Play Award when it premiered at the Alley Theater in Texas.

“I’m so excited to be joining ‘Born With Teeth’ alongside the amazing Edward Bluemel,” Gatwa said. “Liz Duffy Adams has written an exceptional play that is smart, dark, sexy, sharp and funny. There’s a lot to get one’s teeth into. This is like no version of Shakespeare and Marlowe that I’ve ever seen before, and I can’t wait for audiences to join us for the ride.”

Bluemel added: “I feel incredibly proud and excited to be working with Ncuti Gatwa and Daniel Evans on the European premiere of ‘Born With Teeth.’ To be stepping into the shoes of a young William Shakespeare is a huge thrill for any actor and I can’t wait to get started.”

Gatwa has earned acclaim for his role as the 15th Doctor in BBC’s “Doctor Who.” He’s also known for his BAFTA-winning performance as Eric Effiong in Netflix’s “Sex Education” and recently made his National Theatre debut in “The Importance of Being Earnest.”

Bluemel has appeared in “Killing Eve,” “Sex Education,” Prime Video’s “My Lady Jane” and recently wrapped filming Netflix’s “The Seven Dials Mystery” opposite Martin Freeman and Helena Bonham Carter.

The creative team includes Olivier Award-winning designer Joanna Scotcher and Tony and Olivier Award-winning lighting designer Neil Austin, with Charlotte Sutton serving as casting director.
