The footage actually depicted a disturbing incident involving a Hindu sanitation worker named Ashok Kumar, who was falsely accused of blasphemy in Hyderabad, Pakistan. Despite being innocent, Kumar faced mob violence before being cleared by the authorities.

The US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) also documented Kumar’s case in its list of victims of religious persecution. The USCIRF reported that Kumar was falsely accused of blasphemy and had been arrested by the police. However, after conducting an investigation, the Hyderabad police found no evidence of wrongdoing and released Kumar on August 31, 2022. A post on the Hyderabad Police’s official Facebook page confirmed that Kumar was innocent and had been cleared of all charges.
